Charles Walker questions the costs of the new deal self-employment programme.
Mr. Walker: To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions (1) whether he has estimated the cost to the public purse of assisting an unemployed person to return to work under the (a) new deal self-employment programme and (b) other employment programmes; [127435]
(2) what estimate he has made of the number of people likely to participate in the new deal self-employment programme in the next 12 months; and how many people participated in each of the previous three years. [127436]
Mr. Martlew: To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what assessment his Department has made of the effectiveness of the new deal self-employment programme at returning people to work compared with other employment programmes. [129256]
